- FAHLO’S SUPPORT AND IMPACT ON OUR RESEARCH -
We want to express our gratitude for the on-going support provided by Fahlo allowing us to continue our research efforts directly contributing towards marine conservation. Fahlo has become a trusted partner and their generous contributions towards reaching our scientific objectives allowed us to further develop and expand our always growing research projects.
Fahlo’s contributions are supporting three major research projects across three countries and four different species. Not only have data generated from Fahlo-supported projects being used in national stock assessments but they will also keep providing results for studies examining the ecology of highly mobile, large-bodied shark species and thus are directly benefitting their effective management.
Finally, through their bracelets the opportunity to follow our sharks in near real-time is possible and Fahlo offer everyone to become part of the shark research community and provides a platform to inspire the next generation of ocean conservationists.
- FAHLO’S IMPACT ON ASPIRING SHARK SCIENTISTS AND OCEAN ENTHUSIASTS -
Fahlo’s support provides essential resources to marine science students and allows us to offer them unique opportunities to gain invaluable research experiences and further their skills in the field of marine conservation. Below are some of the people impacted by Fahlo throughout 2024.
In the Spotlight
- Dr. Vital Heim -
Dr. Vital Heim has placed more tags on hammerheads than anyone else in the world. A substantial number of the sharks tagged was due to Fahlo’s ongoing support. "Fahlo has been a vital part in equipping great and scalloped hammerheads with fin-mounted satellite transmitters during my PhD, which aimed to assess the efficiency of potential time-area closures for an improved protection of these two species in the western North Atlantic.” he said. Speaking to the impact Fahlo has had on Vitals work with Saving the Blue, he said, “Fahlo has been a decisive piece of the puzzle in completing our hammerhead project, allowing us to make a difference for our oceans and the sharks that live within.”
- Adam Slama -
Experienced videographer and filmmaker Adam Slama felt an opportunity to document the tagging of one of the oceans most charismatic animals was ‘too good to miss’ and joined the Saving the Blue team for a week long shark tagging expedition in Jupiter, Florida.
Adam went on to say, “This incredible opportunity to make an educational film on a subject I’m immensely passionate about was truly an inspiring process from start to finish. My experience as a filmmaker allowed me the privilege of seeing and documenting a rarely seen process; working with highly sensitive and globally endangered hammerhead sharks.” Adam was thrilled to be part of this project and hopes people from all over the world will view and enjoy his documentary.
- Sydnee Steele -
Marine biologist Sydnee Steele joined the Saving the Blue team in Mexico for a once in a lifetime trip! “It was simply phenomenal” said Sydnee. Sydnee went on to say “Opportunities in this industry are extremely hard to find and I’ll be forever grateful for this this one!”
Sydnee wants to spend her life making a difference in conservation and said “With the help of Fahlo I was able to not only gain more experience, I was able to do so internationally!”
